Our Fav Camping Recipes

There’s something about cooking while camping that just makes food taste better.

Maybe it’s the fresh air, the crackling campfire, or simply the fact that everything tastes better when you’re sitting outside with a cold drink in hand.

Over the years, we’ve found a few easy camp recipes that have become regulars on our trips. Nothing too complicated, minimal washing up, and plenty of flavour.

Here are some of our favourites.

1. One-Pot Campfire Spag Bol

A classic comfort meal made even better around the campfire — and the best part is that everything cooks in one pot.

You need:

  • Beef mince

  • Onion

  • Garlic

  • Pasta

  • Tinned tomatoes

  • Stock

  • Red wine

  • Italian herbs

  • Parmesan

Method:

Cook the beef mince and onion in a large pan or camp oven until browned. Add the garlic, pasta, tinned tomatoes and enough stock to cover everything.

Add a splash of red wine and your Italian herbs, then let it simmer until the pasta is cooked, stirring occasionally.

Finish with plenty of parmesan.

Camping tip: I have to admit I’m a lazy cleaner, which means you really do need to scrub the pan while it’s still hot. Leave it until later and it becomes an absolute nightmare!

2. Chicken Wraps

Chicken wraps are always a staple for the first few days of a camping trip while the chicken is still fresh.

They’re quick, easy and you can throw them together whenever you’re hungry.

You need:

  • Chicken

  • Wraps

  • Lettuce

  • Tomato

  • Cheese

  • Burger mayo or Kewpie mayo

Method:

Cook your chicken and warm your wraps. Add lettuce, tomato, cheese and plenty of mayo, then wrap it all up.

Simple, fresh and perfect for an easy camping lunch.

3. Steak & Potato

You can’t really go wrong with steak cooked over the fire.

You need:

  • Steak

  • Potatoes

  • Salad

  • Butter

  • Garlic

  • Salt and pepper

Method:

Wrap whole potatoes in foil with butter, garlic, salt and pepper. Place them into the fire and let them cook until tender.

While the potatoes are cooking, grill your steak on a BBQ plate or pan over the fire.

Serve with a fresh salad and your buttery campfire potatoes.

Simple, filling and very little washing up.

4. Big Breakfast Fry-Up

One of our favourites after a night of camping.

There’s nothing better than waking up in the fresh air, getting the fire going and cooking up a big breakfast.

You need:

  • Bacon

  • Eggs

  • Mushrooms

  • Tomatoes

  • Hash browns

  • Bread

Method:

Throw everything into the pan and cook until golden and ready to eat.

Serve straight onto plates or pile everything into a wrap for an easy breakfast on the go.

Best enjoyed with a morning coffee and absolutely nowhere you need to be. ☕

5. Camp Nachos

Nachos are made for sharing around the campfire.

You need:

  • Corn chips

  • Beef mince

  • Taco seasoning

  • Tinned beans

  • Salsa

  • Cheese

  • Sour cream

  • Avocado

Method:

Cook the beef mince, then add the beans and taco seasoning.

Layer the corn chips, mince, beans, salsa and cheese into a cast-iron pan. Place it over the heat until everything is hot and the cheese has melted.

Top with sour cream and avocado before serving.

Camping shortcut: You could also pre-make some pulled pork at home and simply heat it up at camp.

Perfect for sharing around the fire.

6. Big Mac Tacos

A camping-friendly twist on a takeaway favourite.

You need:

  • Small wraps

  • Beef mince

  • Sliced cheese

  • Lettuce

  • Pickles

  • Dill pickle dip

Method:

Press a thin layer of beef mince directly onto the wrap.

Place the wrap mince-side down onto a hot frying pan and cook until the beef is browned. Flip it over and cook the other side.

Add sliced cheese, lettuce, pickles and plenty of dill pickle dip.

Fold it up and enjoy.

7. Pickle Potato Salad

I love pickles, so this one is an easy favourite.

You need:

  • Potatoes, chopped into cubes

  • Dill pickle dip

Method:

Boil the potatoes until tender, drain and allow them to cool slightly.

Mix through the dill pickle dip.

That’s it!

Sometimes the easiest recipes are the best ones.

8. Lamb Souvlaki

An easy dinner that feels a little bit fancy without requiring much effort.

You need:

  • Lamb

  • Souvlaki wraps from Woolies — Mission brand are the best!

  • Feta

  • Tomato

  • Red onion

  • Tzatziki dip

Method:

Cook the lamb over the fire or in a hot pan.

Lightly fry the wraps until warm, then assemble your souvlaki while everything is still hot.

Add the lamb, feta, tomato, red onion and a generous spoonful of tzatziki.

Wrap it up and enjoy.
